A source has confirmed to UFWF that Elijah Macon will indeed forego his “senior” season at WVU to pursue opportunities in professional basketball. Macon recently graduated and while rumors of this possibility has been swirling for a couple months, it still leaves a big hole in the depth chart for the Mountaineers. With Macon making huge strides last year, he would have been called upon to eat up really important minutes this coming year for a potential preseason top 10 squad. This does hurt, but as we have always seen with Bob Huggins’ teams, they will adapt. Maciej Bender will need to pick up the slack and Sags Konate will be more experienced. Sags showed big play potential last year while only having played competitive basketball for a few years prior.
The same source also confirmed that Derek Culver has indeed made grades and will be on the roster in the fall. Losing one roster member is bad, but losing two would have been very costly to our much needed depth with our style of play. With Jevon Carter also announcing that he will be coming back next year, there is multiple good news items to the singular bad news situation. Regardless, there is still quite a bit of “palpable buzz” surrounding the Mountaineers for the 2017-18 season. Let’s go.
