3-5 Record in 2017
The Really Good
Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc was given the Glasnow mess on Monday and knew he was going to have to go multiple innings to limit damage to the bullpen. 5.1 innings, 1 hit, 1 earned run on a home run allowed to Eugenio Suarez, and that was it. LeBlanc doesn’t light up the radar gun, but he was just solid when the Bucs needed it. Great to know they may have a reliable long innings man out of the bullpen for when the starts don’t go as planned.
The Not So Bad
Andrew McCutchen. In a series that lacked offense so poorly, Cutch stood out to me. The hits weren’t anything spectacular, but he is hitting the ball hard, even when it is just out of play. If you keep smoking the ball like that good things will come. 2 hits for Cutch Tuesday and he recorded 2 more Wednesday including his first extra base hit of the season. Good signs from Cutch with the bat.
The Very Ugly
Tyler Glasnow. I felt bad for Glasnow. You could see how discouraged he was with himself during his brief, ugly start on Monday. 5 walks in 1.2 innings, with 5 earned runs (2 were walked in). Everyone knew the control was an issue with Glasnow through the Minor Leagues. It was apparent that when he got into trouble that his confidence was instantly shot and things went from bad to worse. He seems to be at his best when he works at a controlled pace and really focuses on repeating his delivery. Glasnow was rushing. Look past it and move on though. He can’t hang his head. He matches up this weekend with Jake Arrieta at Wrigley. I’d love nothing more than to see him turn it around and throw a great game against the Cubs.
Make up game in Boston Thursday, then off to Wrigley on Friday for the weekend.
