NFL Pick: Jets at Bills

I have to post my pick for this game separately from Sunday and Monday because I won’t have all of them done before this game kicks off. My apologies. Also, I couldn’t find a Fat Rex to Skinny Rex picture with Skinny Rex coaching the Bills. Anyway:

New York Jets (-1) at Buffalo Bills

I wish I did better than 9-7 last week, because this week could get ugly. There really aren’t any sure things as far as picks against the spread, but I guess that’s kind of the point. The Bills really struggled to generate some offense last week after their starting left tackle, Cordy Glenn, went down. He’s out for this game, but the Bills are still pretty strong along the interior of their offensive line. The Jets recorded seven sacks of Andy Dalton last week, but the Bills may have some success in neutralizing Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams. The Jets don’t have the best edge rushers to take advantage of Buffalo’s tackle situation. Don’t expect LeSean McCoy to get going on the ground, so the Bills will have to get creative with some Tyrod Taylor designed runs and some quick throws to Sammy Watkins (who is dealing with an injury) to open things up.

The Bills had no issues slowing down Ryan Fitzpatrick in what was a must win game for the Jets in week 17 last season. The Bills have numerous injuries and suspensions along their defensive front seven, but they still have two excellent corners who will help in slowing down Brandon Marshall (dealing with an injury) and Eric Decker. The Jets will need to get Matt Forte going as a runner and as a receiver out of the backfield in order to make things easier on their quarterback. The Bills had some success in slowing down the Ravens rushing attack, but Forte had success against Cincinnati’s strong defense last week.

Skinny Rex will have his team fired up for their home opener, and the Bills have won five straight against the Jets. Regardless, this game is pretty much a coin flip. I’m taking the Bills, as I think Tyrod Taylor will have some success against a struggling New York secondary. Luckily, I’m not putting any money on this game.

Pick: Jets 20 Bills 21
