Josh Gordon’s NFL ship may have finally sailed today. On the eve of his 25th birthday, the former All-Pro wide receiver saw his petition for league reinstatement get denied. I know they say that everyone deserves a 10th chance, but pardon me for not feeling too bad for him. The guy was set for life and threw it all away because he couldn’t stop toking. I’ve heard all the stuff about personal demons and what not, but you know what? Millions of dollars will pay for a nice rehab facility and an even better therapist.
Here’s a quick run down of Mr. Gordon’s exploits since entering the league in 2012:
6/16/2012 – Signed 4 year, $5.3M deal with the Browns. This looked like the bargain of the century for about 2 years. Actually on second thought, it was still kind of a bargain.
2012-13 season – 50 catches, 805 yards, and 5 touchdowns as a rookie. Get hype, Browns fans.
4/20/2013 – “Josh got fiiiiiiiiive on it”
6/7/2013 – Suspended for the first 2 games of the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
2013-2014 season – 87 catches, 1646 yards, and 9 touchdowns. In 14 games. This was scary as hell as a Steelers fan. I thought I was gonna have to watch this asshole do stuff like this for the next decade:
4/20/2014 – “If you don’t like his fire, then don’t come around, cuz Josh gonna burn one dohowowwnnnnn, yes Josh gonna burn one. Down.”
7/5/2014 – Arrested for DWI in Raleigh, NC.
8/27/2014 – Suspended for the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, though it was later reduced to 10 games.
2014-2015 season – Returned to action in November, catching 24 balls for 303 yards and no touchdowns. The Browns suspended him for the final game of the regular season for violating team rules.
2/3/2015 – Suspended for the year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. My copy-paste button is running out of gas over here.
4/20/2015 – “Josh was gonna rule the league, but then he got high; Get paid like Yasiel Puig, until he got high; now he’s doing god know’s what, and we know why (why man?), yeahaaaaaa because he got high, because he got high, because he got high”
1/20/2016 – Applied for reinstatement to the league.
4/12/2016 – Petition for reinstatement denied.
4/20/2016 – Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy you already know..
That’s a busy 4 years. If only we could all burn so brightly.
RIP Josh Norman’s career (2012-2016) “Gone but not forgotten”
